Food Just Like Mom Use to Make CAMBRIDGE, MAFebruary 1, 2005Harvard University Dining Services (HUDS) will help ease the pangs of home-sickness students feel when they return for spring semester February 2nd. February is "Recipes from Home" month in the dining halls, featuring recipes that have been sent in by students' families. In December 2004, HUDS mailed postcards to parents, urging them to submit their favorite recipes via the HUDS' website (www.dining.harvard.edu). Two hundred and thirty-nine recipes were presented for consideration and the large response was partly due to the ease of the online process. The Executive Director of HUDS, Ted Mayer, explained why "Recipes from Home" is important. "When you invite somebody to your house and serve them your favorite meal, you are connecting with them on a personal level. While our students can't actually cook a meal for their housemates, they can still connect with them by sharing their "Recipes from Home". This is a fun way for students to enjoy their favorite meals while they are at "home" with their Harvard family. And the HUDS staff feels like they are a part of that family." Chef Martin Breslin had fun sorting through recipes and deciding which ones were reproducible on a large scale. Chef Breslin said, "It's great to see these recipes that have been handed down over the years. You know it's something the student grew up with and we'll try to make it as good as they remember it." For more information, signs are posted in each residence detailing which recipes will be served on what dates, and who contributed them. # # # Contact:Jami Snyder Phone: 617-496-4432 |
