History Lesson
When Harvard was established on the outskirts of a village called Cambridge in 1636, it operated out of the President's house. Several years later Harvard Hall was constructed, and its expansive central room was used for all studying and gathering, including meals. Harvard Yard grew around that first building for the next 200 years.
Overview
HUDS is the oldest collegiate foodservice in America and is a self-sustaining department of Harvard University under the Vice President for Administration. We are also one of the largest collegiate food service operators. With nearly $50 million in annual foodservice revenue, HUDS ranks third among self-operated college foodservice departments in the country. We proudly serve an average of 25,000 meals a day during the academic year and 5 million meals annually, with a staff that is 650 individuals strong. In addition to a core of culinarians and customer service professionals, we also have support professionals in the areas of marketing, finance, human resources, IT, and purchasing.

HUDS is as diverse as it is large. We have four divisions serving the Harvard community: Campus Restaurants operates retail dining facilities large and small, tuned to the diverse needs of its host buildings and schools in both Cambridge and Boston; Crimson Catering delivers cuisine for events and meetings ranging from fine dining to box lunches; Residential Dining provides the undergraduate meal program central to Harvard's unparalleled House life experience; and Crimson Cash is a secure and convenient declining balance payment option for countless Harvard services and neighborhood eateries.
