Louisa Denison

Food Literacy Project Coordinator

Louisa Denison joined Harvard University Dining Services in 2011 as the Food Literacy Project Coordinator. Denison graduated from Harvard College in May 2011, with a degree in Visual and Environmental Studies. While at Harvard, she co-founded the Harvard Community Garden, a space in Harvard Square for student and community growers. Her most recent project involves shopping and cooking from every grocery store in the greater Boston area.

Favorite foods: Taiwanese night market food, stinky tofu (it's delicious), shaved ice, seafood, oyster noodles, various steamed buns, & the list goes on!
Food interests: Traditional Taiwenese recipes, finding new and exciting restaurants, anti-wasting, the art of leftover cooking, & innovative cooking techniques.
Fun food fact: The term sandwich was named after John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, who decided to have meat put between two slices of bread for lunch so he wouldn't get his hands greasy and could continue playing his game of cards.

Fun facts: When I was in China last summer, I made sure I tried nearly every type of exotic chip flavor- from hot pot to lemon tea to sour fish.

Food interests: I love cooking (and eating), but a lot of my interest in food comes from how much of an impact our eating choices can have on the world around us. I also find it fascinating how food varies between cultures and how much we eat can say about who we are.
Favorite foods: Berryline. And most fruits.

Name: Jasmine Omeke

Favorite foods: Strawberry Italian ice, Thai-French fusion, crab, French fries, and white chocolate (my absolute favorite!).
Food interests: I love getting out of my comfort zone in the kitchen. I’ll often pair unlikely ingredients together in an effort to concoct something unique. I am also always on the lookout for new recipes!

Fun food fact:  During the summer, I participated in a Gallery 37 culinary arts program taught by chefs affiliated with the Washburne Culinary Institute and the Peninsula Hotel. I learned plating techniques and how to recreate various recipes from unique restaurants around the downtown Chicago area. I still have my recipe pack from the summer, and I am wiling to share it with anyone who asks.

Favorite foods: Pasta in any context, organic fruits and
vegetables, elk meat (it's like beef without the fat!), teriyaki, tofu in sauce, and, of course, cake.
Food interest: Trying to understand the myriad things food has meant to the world, from a gift between cultures to the spark which has set off wars. Oh, and watching ridiculously perfectionist chefs do their thing.
Food fact: In Canada, where I'm from, we don't actually eat moose jerky. (Often.)
